Beer Butt Chicken

My mom & dad make this every summer on the grill!
1 whole chicken (about 4 lbs)
1 stick butter
1 can beer
2 tbsp garlic salt
salt & pepper to taste

Melt butter and stir in garlic salt, salt, & pepper. Drink 1/2 of the beer (if you're not 21+, then pour it down the drain!). Pour 1/2 of the butter mixture into the can. Put can on a cookie sheet or in a beer butt chicken holder (see link below). Keeping the can upright so you don't spill, put the can into the cavity of the chicken. Baste chicken with the remainder of the butter mixture. Cook on the grill on low for about 3 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 180 degrees F.

I also use a can of sprite instead of the beer. The lemon - lime in the soda is a great accent to a lemon herb or lemon pepper rub on the outside of the chicken. You follow the same directions just use the soda instead and alter your seasonings if you like.
